Giudecca, an island in the north of Venice, is still spotted with old industrial buildings. For this project the class took over an old boat manufactory to replace the empty warehouses with residential buildings. In a first step the class produced a set of building regulations, such as building height, roof angle, or public access routes. The plot provides space for a family house and a smaller, two person apartment with a courtyard separating them; a typically Venetian arrangement. I also followed Venetian traditions by dividing the the main house into three sections. Where the middle section hosts the most public rooms. The entrée and dining room on the ground floor, the living room on the first floor, and a playroom for the kids on the second floor. From this central spine, that runs through the house, more private rooms, such as bedrooms, reading rooms and the kitchen, open up. Details are inspired by oriental architecture.
